Day 71 – My journey to find reasons to vote for Hillary rather than just against Trump.

Hillary thinks women should be paid the same as men.

Depending on whose statistics you choose, even today, women make between 76 and 83% of what men make – even for the same jobs. If you’re black or Hispanic, it’s even worse: black women make only around 60 cents, and Latina women get only 55 cents for every dollar made by a white man. And women are over-represented in service industries, who often make less than minimum wage because of the tipped-wage model.

Lest any men think this doesn’t concern them (except positively), it does. A 2016 report by the Senate Joint Economic Committee suggested that if the gap between men and women’s wages could be cut by half, the American economy would be 5% larger by 2030.

In 2005 and 2007, while she was a New York senator, Clinton introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act. Had it passed, among other things, this legislation would prohibit retaliation against workers who share information about their pay and impose tougher penalties for companies found guilty of sex discrimination. Since Hillary introduced it, there have been newer iterations of it. The first go-round, it didn’t go anywhere; one of the later efforts couldn’t get it out of the Senate. Something to consider when voting the entire ticket.

Call me crazy, but I think I’m worth the same as any man who does the same work.
