Day 48 – My journey to find reasons to vote for Hillary rather than just against Trump.
Hillary is interested in treating addiction rather than just incarcerating it.
In response to a question from a rally attendee (See? She does listen.), Hillary expanded on her policies addressing drug addiction and substance abuse and made it a more central piece of her platform, mentioning it in most speeches now.
Only about 10% of addicts receive treatment.
65% of incarcerated people meet medical standards for drug abuse, but don’t receive treatment.
Her plan includes moving low-level drug crimes out of prisons and into treatment facilities, providing states $4 for each $1 they spend to support their efforts addressed to their specific needs (can we say “states’ rights?”), giving all first responders naloxone to stop opioid cases from becoming fatal.
There’s a lot more, but you can read about it below. If you’re interested, the first article compares candidates’ plans and talks about how the treatment community views their proposals.
